Winter X-ing

Here is a picture of the water, frozen.
I took this video of the first foot bridge crossing this morning. It is a winter view of the first video I posted, taken during the summer run off.

Log Foot Bridges in Centerville Canyon

The trail in Centerville Canyon crosses Deuel Creek at least 13 times. Each time the trail crosses the creek you either have to jump the creek or get wet. To make it easier to navigate, there are now 11 log footbridges placed at key crossings.

The footbridges have a slight slope so that it does not collect water, but be careful especially during springtime – the runoff can be heavy. I put metal mesh on the wood to prevent slipping when the wood gets wet.

As you near the 5 mile mark, you will see two creeks join. I believe we need two more footbridges before you reach that 5 mile mark.

The trail continues another 2 miles before you reach the road at Skyline Drive. Skyline connects Farmington with Bountiful. The road follows along the top of the canyon.

This picture is the first log foot bridge I built. It took me 5 weekends to complete. It is the first foot bridge you will cross on the north trailhead (fourth on the south trailhead).

First Foot Bridge Crossing

Here is a video of the first foot bridge crossing.
It is located about a third of a mile from the trailhead.

Great Snowshoeing

One of my favorite things to do on the trail in winter is snowshoe Centerville Canyon.

Utah's Wasatch Front has a lot of choices for snowshoeing, but I am partial to Centerville Canyon because
it is mostly untouched. You will see Moose, Mountain Lions, Deer and several other wildlife tracks to see in the snow.

The trail is mostly a north face, and follows the creek all the way up. You are not more than 20 feet from the creek for the most part. The trial is well groomed for at least 2 to 3 miles.

Generally I am the first one in the canyon in the morning so there will normally be a packed trial to follow. There are several foot bridge crossings. I keep the trial well groomed in the winter. Most of the time you have to park on the pavement and walk into the canyon before you can start shoeing to the trailhead. There are several ways to the trialhead. It generally is trial and error finding which path to take.

Waterfall

The first of many interesting sites along the trial. This waterfall is about 5 minutes from the trialhead. The first bridge crossing is about 5 minutes more.

Wild boysenberries

found on right side of trial about 50' before you reach the stream. Wild boysenberries. I took the one in the center of the photo.

My eyes misted a little...

This sign board was installed on the 23rd. of July. Who said an individual can't make a difference. The City also installed a sign board at the main trailhead. My trial that I developed over the past 2 or 3 years connects with the main trial up the canyon. My trail is on the north face of the canyon. I had to build three bridges to cross the creek before it joins the main trial. They haven't had time yet to give info, etc. on the board. My eyes misted a little when I saw the board....

Where is the Centerville Canyon Trailhead?

From I 15 take The Centerville Parrish lane exit (exit 322). Turn east on Parrish Lane and continue driving east until you hit 400 E. Then turn right on 400 E., then left on 100 S. and drive all the way up until you hit the dirt road at the top. Follow the dirt road, and hit the first fork turn right. Follow that up staying to your left all the way up to the trail head. Along the road you will pass two or three forks along the way but stay on the main road to your left. The trail head is just left of the gun range gate. There is also a trail head sign post just left of that gate.
